Charity is one of the three core pillars of Freemasonry and we all working hard to promote this proud and generous principle. Today we are one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing more than £48 million to deserving causes in 2018 alone.
Through grants to local and national charities; cuddly bears to distressed children receiving hospital treatment and residential care homes dedicated to ensuring our elderly receive the care and services they deserve, read on to see how Freemasons are supporting our community.
Charity in our Province is administered by the Durham Masonic Benevolent Fund.
The Provincial Benevolent Committee consists of an elected member from every Lodge in the Province and minutes of our quarterly meetings and many other forms and reports of our activity are available for information on the Provincial website.
As a Charity with assets over £8m we Durham Freemasons are very proud of the low administrative costs mainly due to the time and experience freely given by so many dedicated and enthusiastic Freemasons and by the staff in Provincial office.
The Province has two residential housing properties at Fulwell, Sunderland and Bishop Auckland which are our flagships and we are especially proud of our support for TLC (Tender Loving Care) Teddies.
The Province also supports the national Masonic Charities listed below:
Masonic Charitable Foundation: The Freemasons Charity
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
The Freemasonry Fund for Surgical Research
THE LODGE OF INDUSTRY No 48
